Naftagaz to drill 300+ wells at Yamal oil fields

Naftagaz has concluded additional contracts for construction of 346 oil wells as part of the YAMAL Project; drilling will be conducted using BU 3900 EC 225 and BU 4000/250 EC-BM rig types. By April 2022, Naftagaz drilling specialists engaged in the Yamal Project at PAO Gazprom Neft and PAO NK Rosneft sites have drilled through 1.7 million metres of rock and constructed 397 wells at the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug oil fields containing approximately 18% of total oil reserves of Russia, only 5% of which have been developed to date.

Naftagaz is taking part in several pilot projects launched by its customer and aimed at improvement of production efficiency. ‘Batch drilling’ process has been implemented at Krainee Deposit to reduce spacing between wells and, as a result, dimensions of well pads, generating time and cost savings for the oil company. Five well pads at the YAMAL Project employ digital drilling technologies allowing for reduction of construction time by up to 10% and increase of mechanical speed by 30%.

This March also saw extension of the company’s accreditation for operations at Rosneft oil fields for another term. Naftagaz and Rosneft have been cooperating since 2017 (RN-Purneftegaz, Varyeganneftegaz and RN-Nyaganneftegaz subsidiary companies).

Naftagaz is among the top five of Russia’s largest independent drilling contractors. Almost 4 millions of metres have been drilled by the company since its establishment. The company invests 1 billion roubles in its fixed assets annually, and demonstrates steady improvement of production and financial performance year after year. Approximately 2000 workers are employed by Naftagaz. The company’s principal production site is located in Noyabrsk (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug).
