In Noyabrsk, at the Training Center NaftaGaz-Development, a large-scale strategic session took place, dedicated to the development of the occupational safety culture. The event brought together the company’s senior management, key leaders and specialists, as well as the experts from PAO Gazprom Neft.
The aim of the session was to develop a plan of certain actions to improve the safety culture based on the results of a comprehensive assessment conducted in 2023.
More than 20 managers and specialists took part in the session, including Sergey Fokeyev, General Manager of NG-Bureniye, Alexander Melnik, Deputy General Director for Production, Ruslan Mukhamediyarov, Deputy General Director for Occupational Safety, and the experts in occupational safety. The speakers were the representatives of the client, including Asiya Kusnuyarova, the Head of the Safety Culture Development Department at PAO Gazprom Neft.
During the session, the results of the NG-Bureniye safety culture maturity assessment were presented. According to the study, the company is currently at the "Managing" level. Both strengths and areas for development were identified. The strengths included the integration of the safety issues into the production processes, support from the management, and openness in discussing the occupational safety issues.
The strategic session resulted in the intensive group work focused on developing practical measures. The participants concentrated on the three key elements of the safety culture: "Attitude towards Risks", "Unbiased Attitude towards Violations and Incidents", and "Management of Contractors in the Safety Matters". In each field there were certain initiatives proposed, target audiences identified, and performance indicators established.
Asiya Kusnuyarova emphasized that "such a format of the event, contributing to an open dialogue and discussion, is a high-quality indicator of NG-Bureniye’s interest and readiness for the further development of the safety culture as the foundation of the company's production culture. It is reassuring that the leading role in today’s session was played by the representatives from operational functions. The majority of developmental activities was initiated by the 'business' itself, which instills confidence in their practical orientation, adaptability, and readiness of the personal participation of each manager in their implementation."
The participants mostly overall highly appreciated the practical benefits and format of the meeting. The development plan, created during the session, will be finalized within a month and will serve as a road map for strengthening the safety culture at NG-Bureniye over the next three years.
"The strategic session on developing the safety culture is an extremely important and necessary format of work, allowing us to focus on the key issues and develop certain solutions. During the productive discussions, the interesting and, most importantly, practically-oriented ideas were adopted, which will form the basis of our further development in the field of occupational safety. Our common task now is to ensure their effective and timely implementation. Special thanks to the colleagues from PAO Gazprom Neft for their methodological support, valuable insights, and constructive dialogue. I am confident that together we will achieve our goals in the field of safety," summarized Sergey Fokeyev.
